1. GETTING TO BILBAO
BY PLANE
The Loiu airport is located approximately 15 minutes by car from the University of Deusto and has excellent communications with the most important towns of the Basque Country and a bus service (see below). In addition, one hour from Bilbao airport is the airport of Santander. Both airports operate with lowcost airlines such as: Brussels Airlines, Vueling, EasyJet, Air France, Lufthansa, Iberia, Ryanair, Air Lingus, Tap, Turkish Airlines and Tunisair.
Bus A3247 BILBAO-Airport: operates every day of the year, with services every 20 minutes in summer, and 30 minutes in the winter season, connecting with TERMIBUS, the Bilbao bus and coach terminus. Before reaching the end of the route, this bus (Fare: 1.3 €) makes three stops in the city centre: 14 Alameda Rekalde (closest to the UD), Plaza Moyúa, and at 74 Gran Vía.
BY LAND: BUS, TRAIN OR CAR

By train: Bilbao is connected via railways with France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Once delegates have got to Hendaye by TGV, they just have to commute to Irun by TopoTrain and then take the bus from Irun to Bilbao. We would encourage delegates to choose other transport options, though.
From France: Bilbao is 8 hours from Paris by car, with connections to other important cities along the route: the nearby Donostia-San Sebastián (100 km.), Bayonne (150 km.), Biarritz (150 km.), Pau, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Limoges, Tours …
From Madrid and central Spain: Madrid is a 4-hour drive away, passing by Burgos (150 km) and the nearby Vitoria-Gasteiz (60 km.). The capital of Spain connects Bilbao with the Castilian Plateau, a region where the cities of Valladolid, Segovia, Salamanca, and Toledo are located.
From Barcelona and the Mediterranean: It takes a 6-hour journey to travel from Barcelona, along a route that passes by Zaragoza and Logroño (130 km.) or alternatively Pamplona (150 km.). The capital of Catalonia opens up Bilbao to the Mediterranean axis, both in Spain and France.
BY SEA
The Port of Bilbao, one of the most important transport and logistics centres on the Atlantic Arc, makes the Bay of Biscay a real highway to the city through a regular ferry line from England, with the vessel Cap Finistère. This Brittany Ferries shipping company ferry moors 20 minutes from the city centre, at the dock in Zierbena (quay A3). Twice a week it transports people and vehicles to and from the city of Portsmouth in the United Kingdom. The crossing takes 24 hours, or 32 if you choose the option with a stopover in the French port of Roscoff.
2. GETTING FROM AROUND BILBAO TO THE UNIVERSITY:
By bus: As said above, there is a bus service (Bizkaibus A3247) connecting the airport (just outside the Arrivals Hall) and the city centre (Moyua Circle and/or Termibus – Central Bus Station) in around 15 minutes. It leaves every 20 minutes, starting at 6:15 am, and the last bus is at 12:00 pm. Furthermore, you get a nice view of the Guggenheim museum as you come over the La Salve Bridge.
There are several stops of several lines of city and intercity buses next to the campus:
- Gran Vía 79
- Plaza Moyúa
- Alameda Rekalde 11 (closest to the University)
- Termibús, Gordóniz 1
By taxi: The transfer from the airport to Deusto University takes around 15 minutes. Standard fare is 30€.
By train or tram: If you choose getting by Euskotren, you can come on line 4 and get off at the stop Unibertsitatea. In addition, the Guggenheim stop of the tram line is in front of the Father Arrupe footbridge of the University. There are trams every nine minutes.
By underground: To arrive at the University by metro, you can get off at the stop of Deusto or Moyua, both are about a 10-minute walk from the campus.
By car: The University of Deusto has several car parks, both on the campus square (though you need a student card to get in) and in the Plaza Euskadi, located about five minutes of the University, across the Deusto Bridge.
By bycicle: Using a bike to get to the campus is, without a doubt, a wise option, since there are multitude of cycle lanes that would lead you to the entrance of the University. Once there, you can leave your bike in the spaces that have been equipped for this means of transport.
